2. Why is Self Care important?

Self care often has a false idea behind it that taking care of oneself is selfish. In reality, we are actually hurting others when we do not take care of ourselves first. In order to perform our best we need to feel our best.

Self care has been defined as the process of taking care of oneself with behaviours that promote health and active management of illness when it occurs. Selfcare is being mindful of yourself. It is creating a deep relationship with oneself and feeling more connected with our bodies. This allows you to create healthy boundaries preventing traumas and other illness.

Self care activities can range from physical activities such as exercising and eating healthy, to mental activities such as meditation, reading a book, or as simple as grabbing lunch with a friend. Other activities include doing a face mask, taking a bath, indulging in a massage, wash your hair, or even practicing the ritual of hair oiling to care for your scalp and hair with a head massage. All these activities are fulfilling to yourself. These actions will help overall wellness and result in a happier, healthier and positive self.
